The Algerian Desert is located in north-central Africa and is part of the Saharan Africa. The desert occupies more than four-fifths of the territory of Algeria.

Its expansion starts from the Saharan Atlas mainly as stony desert and the becomes a more sand dune desert the farther inland you move. Many individual rows of sand dunes can be discerned upon opening the full image.
