Large Area of Circular Fields in Saudi Arabia

31.0N 38.5E

February 4th, 2011 Category: Deserts

Saudi Arabia - January 17th, 2011

The green circles composing this oddly angled geometrical shape are actually dozens of circular fields. Their circular shape and ability to flourish in the arid desert are both due to central pivot irrigation.

The fields are situated around the settlement of Al Basayta, in Saudi Arabia, near the border with Jordan. In the full image, other interesting geographical features such as a sandy desert and the Dead Sea can be observed.
