The Kerguelen Islands, located in the Southern Indian Ocean, are a French Territory. The archipelago is made up of the main island, Grande Terre, and 300 other smaller islands and islets.

Here, the interaction of the islands and with air flow containing alternating moist and dry laters creates a long series of lenticular clouds. These are more commonly known as as wave clouds, as they take on the shape of a long, giant “ship wake”.

In the full image, another island to the North creates a smaller series of wave clouds.
