Popcorn Clouds East of Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico17.4N 95W
Some clouds hover over the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in Mexico. To the east, on the Yucatán Peninsula, the small, rounded clouds are known as “popcorn clouds” due to their dotted appearance. The coastal areas to the west of the isthmus do not show this kind of cloud cover.
The peninsula’s coast is also highlighted by sunglint, which gives the water a silvery appearance. Sediments can also be observed along the coastline, appearing bright green and blue in areas of sunglint and darker green and brown to the west.
