Canary Islands - August 3rd, 2011

Some interesting clouds patterns can be observed southwest of the Canary Islands, which belong to Spain but are located off the coast of western Africa by Morocco and Western Sahara. These loose swirls of clouds are Kármán Vortex Streets.

Kármán Vortex Streets are double rows of spiralling vortices that are caused by the unsteady separation of flow of a fluid (water vapor of clouds) over bluff bodies (in this case, the Canary Islands).
