Argentina – December 8th, 2012

A phytoplankton bloom that began off the coast of Argentine Patagonia in October can still be seen here, two months later (click here for previous images). The bloom is south of Peninsula Valdes (upper right quadrant). Some dust can also be seen blowing off the coast, just north of the bloom.

Argentina – November 28th, 2012

The faint remnants of a phytoplankton in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Argentine Patagonia (click here for previous images) can be seen in this image. The lighter color of the water in and northeast of the San Jorge Gulf, south of the Valdes Peninsula, is due to sun glint. The phytoplankton, can be seen through the glint and in the full image near the right edge.

Argentina – November 14th, 2012

Phytoplankton continues to create blue and green patterns in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Argentine Patagonia (click here for previous images). Some bright blue phytoplankton can also be seen in the San Matías Gulf, north of the Valdes Peninsula.

The phytoplankton bloom that has been present off the Argentine coast since October (click here for previous images) continues to flourish, adding green and blue hues to the waters of the Atlantic. The image stretches from the Valdes Peninsula (top center) to the Falkland Islands, or Islas Malvinas (bottom right).

Argentina – November 10th, 2012

A phytoplankton bloom continues to flourish off the coast of Argentine Patagonia, tinging the Atlantic’s waters bright shades of blue and green. The bloom has be present there since October (click here for previous images). Some colors are also visible along the coastline, by Bahía Blanca (above) and in the San Matías Gulf (just above center). The former is likely caused by a mix of sediments and phytoplankton, while the latter may be predominately phytoplankton due to its electric blue color.
