Romania - June 10th, 2009

Most of the land in this image is in Romania, although near the top border part of southwestern Ukraine (above right) and part of southern Moldova (above center) can also be seen.

The majority of the terrain appears to be used for agriculture, with fields particularly concentrated near the Danube River, which flows through the center of the image on its way to the Black Sea.

The bright white areas near the Danube are the cities of Galati (above) and Brăila (below). Most of the terrain around the cities and rivers appears flat, with hills rising up to the east.

A large body of water, Yalpug Lake, is visible at the top right. It is the largest natural lake in Ukraine, covering an area of 149 km², with an average depth of about 2 metres, and a maximum depth of 5.5 metres.
